Touch Lightly, If At All

“With freedom, books, flowers, and the moon, who could not be happy?” Oscar Wilde

What does it mean to be a natural light photographer? It means that the brick wall of the underpass near the parking garage of the historic city center you are supposed to be shooting in ends up being one of your best locations of the day. Whoot!

This is a shoot I scheduled to experiment with using the harsher light of mid-day (and so of course I went and found open shade). But! Look at the great location I found at the same time. Baked_beka (IG) was a great model to work with for this type of shoot. She was totally able to “tires, but make it fashion” for me.

The inspiration for this photoshoot was William S. Burroughs. I love taking an idea and running with it. In this case— we started with Burroughs and ended up with Joan Vollmer. Because she should be remembered too.

My shoot with Banhxeobrujx (IG) on March 11, 2020, was when I started to realize the covid-19 pandemic was real. On one hand, the lack of crowds is nice for doing a photoshoot. On the other hand, good grief, where are all the people?

Typhoid Mary. She used to be considered a bad person, but I suspect she would be considered a brave freedom fighter by the Covid Connies in America. We all know a Covid Connie— someone who thinks wearing mask to prevent the spread of covid is a violation of her freedom. She just wants everyone to act like everything is okay because that’s convenient for her.
Don’t be a Covid Connie. Wear a mask. Care about the lives and safety of others. If we work together, we can beat this thing without letting 2 million or more Americans die from a preventable illness.
