What does it mean to be a natural light photographer? It means that the brick wall of the underpass near the parking garage of the historic city center you are supposed to be shooting in ends up being one of your best locations of the day. Whoot!

Operation_mj (IG) is always a lot of fun to shoot, and I never know who exactly he will be or be with. In this case, it was a last minute Halloween shoot in our local historical cemetery (we’ve got a piece of the Maine!) with Rukiahitachiin (IG) as mash ups of Beetlejuice and the Nightmare before Christmas.

Key point: Yanleyna (IG) is *not* leaning on the tombstone.

I’d like to say this was planned— that we carefully arranged her hair to give a transformation effect to her left eye. But we did not, this is just the result of a perfect hair toss.

Is it October? Then we’re back in the cemetery. This time with Miss_Ichor (IG). She’s an amazing model, as you can see, and also make-up artist, as you can also see.
I don’t think my idea quite worked as well as I had hoped. I think the problem was a lack of more. More wings, more roses, more string. Next time!

This is a shoot I scheduled to experiment with using the harsher light of mid-day (and so of course I went and found open shade). But! Look at the great location I found at the same time. Baked_beka (IG) was a great model to work with for this type of shoot. She was totally able to “tires, but make it fashion” for me.

I couldn’t decide between black and white and color on this one— and then I remembered, I don’t have to choose, this is my blog, duh.
Among my favorite things about photographing cosplayers is that they really know their stuff. When I tossed a bag of bird bones and skulls on the ground and said, “You know how vampires need to count?” Yeah, she knew.

The second of my yearly cemetery shoots. Of course I had to schedule a shoot with Jkat317 (IG). She always takes her cosplay to the next level which is perfect for this cemetery. Zoom in on the face paint on Bigfernie94 (IG)— that’s her work and it’s amazing!

Every year right before Daylight Saving Time begins, I schedule as many photoshoots as possible in our local historic cemetery. Miss_Ichor (IG) was the first of this year’s season. It was a great shoot— everything I like to do as a photographer came together in this photo. Cosplay! Props! Location shooting! Good light! It was like a dream come true really.

The inspiration for this photoshoot was William S. Burroughs. I love taking an idea and running with it. In this case— we started with Burroughs and ended up with Joan Vollmer. Because she should be remembered too.
